At its core, the project investigates the relationship between form, airflow, and environmental performance. The cooling unit is designed with a strong vertical presence, using repeated curved profiles to create a rhythmic and visually striking structure. These layered geometries are not purely aesthetic — they are engineered to guide and optimise airflow, improving cooling efficiency in outdoor settings such as cafés, public seating areas, and transitional spaces.
A key aspect of the project is its use of 3D printing technology, specifically PA12 Nylon. This material was selected for its durability, weather resistance, and ability to realise complex geometries with precision. Additive manufacturing allows the design to incorporate intricate perforations and internal structures that enhance ventilation while reducing material waste, supporting a more sustainable production approach.
